It's quite fuzzy in our memory now, but there's once a time where Otamendi was the best CB in La Liga. He only spent a season in Valencia, but able to settled quickly, and giving some dominant display at the back line of his team. Though not particularly tall for a CB, Otamendi has great jumping ability and superb reading of the game, enabling him to eliminate danger before it happens. This version of Otamendi were clearly better than what he eventually become at Manchester City. This superb form earned him a status as one of the best defender in Europe during his time at Valencia.
