There was an ongoing debate about who was the better Left Back between Jordi Alba and Marcelo. Some argue that Marcelo is a more talented player which has a better influence on his team overall, yet Alba has some very strong case against it.

For starters, Alba is clearly a better player defensively and a better athlete than the former. Moreover, Alba has a better work rate and much more of a team player than Marcelo. Marcelo clearly has a better technical qualities and grace on the ball, but Alba was no slouch either in that aspects. An on it goes, it's like King Kong vs Godzilla.

Whether who's better is up for debate, but there's no denying that Alba is one of the best Left Back out there in his prime. In his prime Alba has a telepathic connection with Messi which is so integral to Barcelona's game plan. Alba has a tremendous pace off the ball, something which he's born with. This quality made him a perfect player to exploit spaces behind the opposition's defense which were made by those genius diagonal long ball from Messi.

In addition, Alba has an elite attacking instinct and finishing quality for a Left Back, something that he learned during his youth as a striker. This helps him to score more than 50 goals throughout his career, a special number for a defender, which put him right up there with Marcelo as one of the most productive Left Back of his generation.
